Inhotim Signage
Strengthening the sense of belonging at Inhotim
Inhotim boasts a visiting area of over one square kilometer. At its heart, you'll find more than 1,300 artworks on display, 23 galleries, and over 4,500 botanical species. The sheer size of Inhotim, the world's largest open-air museum, is consistent with its significance. This importance also justifies the development of a signage system to enhance the visitor experience.
The project began with a survey of the existing signage, followed by an analysis of visitor flows and behavior. The design of the new map needed to have a simple and direct language. The new signage system's language was inspired by subway lines, proposing the creation of 3 axes for visitor interpretation and orientation, in addition to icons to represent each gallery.
The new family of signs is integrated with the organization by axes, with the intention of contributing to the visitor's experience at Inhotim. More than just directing the path to be taken, the project aids the user's learning about the surrounding space. The idea is to develop people's mastery over locations, routes, and distances, enhancing the feeling of security and the sense of belonging to the Institute.
