Google BHZ
A local approach for a global icon
Google's Engineering Center in Brazil is located in Belo Horizonte, where, in 2016, we created a signage and environmental design project for 4 floors. To connect the global space with the values of Minas Gerais, the project presented the challenge of identifying strong cultural and corporate references.
In this first stage of the project, we integrated solutions that explore how Google would take local culture and its influences into account in the design process. The digital and intangible context of the company's services was reflected in the workspaces, where elements such as glass, screens, and glossy surfaces provide the greatest possible immersion. In the common areas, the landscape and culture of Minas Gerais are represented by tactile materials, textures, earthy tones, patterns, and lattices.
Between 2019 and 2022, we took on the signage and environmental design for another Google space in the building, which consisted of renovating an existing floor and expanding to a new one. Starting from elements such as regional meteorological data, typical fruits of the Cerrado, precious stones, fish species, and state mountains, we expanded the diversity of Minas Gerais references in the names and design of different sectors on the new floors.
