Mutual Wish
A manifesto of creative symbiosis between Tate Liverpool and Instituto Inhotim
In 2020, Instituto Inhotim and the British museum Tate Liverpool collaborated on a process of exchange, critique, and self-reflection that resulted in the project "Desejo Comum/Mutual Wish," a publication that records this experience of exchange between the two institutions.
The character of multiple learning inspired the visual construction of the volume, in which the texts in Portuguese and English are intertwined, exploring the limits of the visual dichotomy very present in bilingual publications. The differentiation between languages is made through color alternation. For the construction of the grid, our main references were Brazilian magazines and newspapers that are the result of the conceptual materialization of artistic and cultural manifestos in the country.
The color palette is composed of four main colors – pink, orange, lilac, and mint –, defined from the posters used during the workshops between Tate Liverpool and Instituto Inhotim. As it is a result of co-creation, the publication also includes a manifesto, developed with the aim of propagating the ideas built during the process.
